After graduating as a goldsmith, then a multimedia designer, the Dutch artist Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk decided to launch 100% in his true passion: photography. A true lover of human and animal faces and bodies, this talented artist specializes in portraits photos which are inspired by classical painting.
More precisely, Gemmy is inspired by Golden age : an artistic movement that emerged at Netherlands the 17th century. The artist literally draws his references from master paintings to realize portraits that seem to be classic paintings. To achieve this result more real than nature, it diverts in particular two techniques well known to painters: the chiaroscuro which creates an illusion of relief and the sfumato which creates wispy outlines around the subjects.
By combining these two techniques to perfection, Gemmy gives the impression that his photos are paintings inherited from the Golden Age Dutch made from scratch on a canvas. Great art! To learn more about the artist, we invite you to discover his portfolio.
